Network cabling, Wi-Fi and networking

The network inside your building, from structured cabling to managed switches and Wi-Fi that reaches every corner, surveyed, installed and managed by our own engineers.

Who it is for

Businesses in Teesside and the North East with Wi-Fi that drops in the meeting room, a warehouse where the scanners lose signal at the far end, a cabinet nobody can trace a cable in, or a new building with no cabling at all. Offices, workshops, warehouses, schools, practices and hotels, where everything else depends on the network nobody looks at.

What you get

Structured cabling installed to a high standard and labelled, UniFi managed switches, access points and gateways configured and monitored by us, Wi-Fi coverage planned from a survey so it reaches where people and devices actually work, guest and staff networks separated, and the whole thing documented and supported by the engineers who installed it, answered within three rings.

The problem

Everything you run depends on the network inside the building, and poor cabling and patchy Wi-Fi slow all of it down.

The leased line is fast and the cloud is fine, and the laptop in the corner office still cannot hold a video call. The fault is usually inside the building: cabling that was cheap when the office was fitted out, a consumer router doing the job of a business gateway, access points placed where the ceiling was convenient rather than where the people are, and the phones, cameras, guests and the accounts server all on one flat network.

A business network is designed from a survey. Coverage is measured on site; cabling is run to a standard and labelled; switches are managed, so a port can be traced and a fault seen from the service desk; Wi-Fi is planned for the warehouse scanners and the hot-desks as well as the boardroom; and the networks that should not share are separated. Country Valley Foods' 36,000 square feet of food storage got cordless coverage across every area; Thomas Armstrong's sites got cabling, Wi-Fi and switching rebuilt as the foundation for everything that followed.

We use Ubiquiti UniFi for switches, access points and gateways, managed from one controller and monitored by our team, so a change is a job for the service desk and a fault is seen before the complaint arrives.

What is included

IncludedDetail
SurveyCabling routes, cabinet positions and Wi-Fi coverage measured on site, with the trouble spots found
DesignA cabling schedule, switch and access point placement and a network layout with staff, guest, phone and device networks separated
CablingStructured cabling in any category, installed, tested and labelled, with fibre backbones between cabinets, floors and buildings, and patch panels and cabinets tidied so a port can be traced
InstallationUniFi switches, access points and gateways fitted and configured, with guest Wi-Fi, security and the separated networks set up
TestingCoverage checked after installation where people work, and every cable certified
ManagementSwitches, Wi-Fi and gateways monitored by our team, firmware kept current and changes made by the service desk
DocumentationCabling schedule, network diagram and configuration handed over and kept current

Not included, or sold separately

The internet connection
Business broadband, a leased line or a microwave link to the building is a separate service
The firewall
A hosted firewall at the network edge is a separate service; the UniFi gateway routes and separates networks inside the building
Containment and building works
Trunking, tray and basket installed by our engineers or specified for your fit-out contractor, depending on the job; floor boxes, cores through walls and power to cabinets are carried out by your contractor
Devices on the network
Desktops, laptops, phones, cameras and door controllers are their own services; this is the network they plug into
Home networks
Staff Wi-Fi at home is outside the managed network; the laptop on it is covered by managed IT

How it is delivered

  1. Survey the building

Coverage measured where people and devices work, cabling routes and cabinet positions checked, and the trouble spots found: the far end of the warehouse, the meeting room with the foil-backed plasterboard.

  2. Design the layout

Cabling schedule, switch and access point placement, the separated networks and the security settings, priced per project before anything is ordered.

  3. Install the cabling

Cabling run, tested, certified and labelled, cabinets and patch panels tidied, scheduled around your operations or before the furniture in a new building.

  4. Fit and configure the equipment

UniFi switches, access points and gateways installed and configured, networks separated, guest Wi-Fi set up, and coverage checked after installation where people actually sit and work.

  5. Monitor and support

The network monitored by our team, firmware kept current, and changes made by the service desk. Most changes, such as a new desk or a new device, are made remotely.

Questions people ask

Which equipment do you use?

We install Ubiquiti UniFi managed switches, Wi-Fi access points and gateways, managed from one controller and monitored by our team, so a fault is seen from the service desk and a change is made remotely.

Can you fix poor Wi-Fi in an existing building?

Yes. We survey the building, measure the coverage where people work, find the gaps and the interference, and position access points so coverage is reliable in the warehouse and the meeting room as well as the office.

Do you install structured cabling as well as Wi-Fi?

Yes. Our own engineers install structured cabling to a high standard, tested, certified and labelled, as the foundation for the switches and Wi-Fi that run on it.

Can staff and guests be kept apart?

Yes. Staff, guests, phones, cameras and devices are placed on separate networks with the right security on each, so a visitor's laptop never sits on the same network as your accounts server.

Will you look after the network once it is installed?

Yes. We monitor and manage the switches, Wi-Fi and gateways we install, keep the firmware current, and handle changes through our service desk, answered within three rings.

We are moving into a new building. What happens first?

The survey and design, then the connectivity ordered because it is the longest item, then the cabling before the furniture, then the switches and Wi-Fi. Involve us as soon as the date is known.

Can you cover a warehouse or a yard?

Yes. Coverage is planned from a survey for the whole site, including racking, loading bays and outdoor areas, with access points chosen for the environment. Country Valley Foods' 36,000 square feet of food storage is covered this way.

Do you subcontract the cabling work?

No. All cabling and network work is carried out by Odyssey's own engineers, never subcontracted, and the team that installs it is the team that supports it.
