Service line

AI consultancy for North East organisations

We put AI to work in the systems you already run, from Microsoft 365 to your phones and business applications, with the data controls set first and our own people accountable for it.

Applied AI services

Your staff are probably using AI already. We help you decide where it recovers time, put controls on the data it reaches, and name an owner for each tool.

Fits around either

Also in Applied AI: Shadow AI protection, How we use AI ourselves.

How we approach AI

  1. Find out where the time goes

How the work is done today, and which AI tools staff already use: a short staff survey and, where you agree, DefensX browser discovery, which shows the tools in use and the data going into them.

  2. Bring in the tools that fit, controls first

An AI use policy agreed with you, unapproved tools restricted in the browser, and Microsoft 365 permissions put right before any Copilot licence. Then a pilot on two or three real tasks, measured before and after.

  3. Connect AI to the systems where the work happens

Where a bought tool stops short of your own systems, we build the join: inbound email read into orders or tickets, two systems linked so nobody re-keys, drafts prepared inside the application your team uses.

  4. Keep every tool owned and working

AI tools change without warning when a model is updated or a connected system changes. We manage the licences, review access as people join and leave, and support it all through the service desk you already call.

Choosing Applied AI services

Who this line is for

Organisations across Teesside, County Durham and Tyneside whose staff already use AI tools and whose leaders want to know what is leaving the building. We start with the clients whose Microsoft 365, devices and phones we already look after, and with professional practices that hold data they are obliged to protect: accountants, solicitors, surveyors, and medical and care practices.

What you get

Time recovered on the repetitive parts of the work, measured before and after, while your people keep making the decisions. Every AI tool in use has an approved purpose, a named owner in your business, limits on the data it can reach and a way to switch it off.

Odyssey is the North East's telecoms and IT provider with its own network: business connectivity, telephony, managed IT, security and applied AI for organisations across Teesside and the North East, delivered by our own people since 1987.

AI recovers time where work is rule based and repeated, and where an expert needs material prepared before they decide. It recovers very little where the process itself is broken. So we look at how your people work and how the work flows before we look at tools: changes agreed and never adopted, reports nobody reads, approvals for risks that went years ago, data typed twice between systems. A workflow that should not exist is removed before anything is automated.

Most of our clients run Microsoft 365, so the plan you already have tells us what an AI rollout would stand on. Microsoft 365 Business Premium is the secure foundation: identity, devices and basic data protection. Microsoft 365 Copilot with Microsoft Purview adds AI inside the apps people use, with data classification, sensitivity labels and data loss prevention. Microsoft describes Agent 365 as one place to see which AI agents exist, what they can reach and where they are in their lifecycle. If Copilot or agents are in use without the layer beneath them, the business is carrying risk, and we tell you so.

Governance starts with the first tool. Each one gets an approved purpose, a list of the data it may reach, a person in your business who owns it and a way to switch it off, and a person approves anything the AI does that matters. Odyssey employees do all of the work, and we hold ourselves to the same controls: AI drafts notes in our own service desk, and an engineer decides whether to use, edit or reject each one.

Questions people ask

Who can help my business with AI in the North East?

Odyssey, in Stockton-on-Tees, helps organisations across Teesside, County Durham and Tyneside adopt AI safely: shadow AI protection and policy, Microsoft 365 Copilot with the permissions put right first, and AI built into the systems they already run. Odyssey is certified to ISO 27001 and ISO 9001.

Will AI replace my staff?

We use AI to give people time back on repetitive work; a person still checks the output and makes the decision. In our own service desk, AI drafts ticket notes and our engineers decide whether to use, edit or reject each one.

Do you use AI in your own business?

Yes. In our service desk, AI drafts ticket summaries and conclusions, and an engineer decides whether to use, edit or reject each draft. Our own staff use AI under the same shadow AI controls we provide to clients.

We bought Microsoft 365 Copilot and hardly anyone uses it. Can you help?

Yes. Low use usually means nobody chose the tasks Copilot was for, nobody trained people on them and nobody measured the result. We review the Microsoft 365 permissions, agree two or three real tasks for each role, train a pilot group on them, and measure the same things before and after.

Who does the work?

Odyssey employees, through the same service desk and engineers who look after the rest of your technology. Nothing is subcontracted, specialist build work included.

Is our data safe if staff use AI tools?

It depends on the tool and the plan. A public chatbot may keep what is pasted into it, so we find out which tools are in use, approve the ones that fit and stop client and personal data reaching the rest. Microsoft 365 Copilot works inside your Microsoft 365 tenant, under Microsoft's data terms, and shows each user only what they can already open.

We support organisations in Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, Durham, Hartlepool, Darlington, Stockton-on-Tees and Middlesbrough, from our service desk at Preston Farm.
