Service line

On-site infrastructure

The equipment inside your building, installed and supported by our own engineers, from cabling and Wi-Fi to desk phones, computers, access control and CCTV, on one network and one service desk.

On-site infrastructure services

Everything else in the building runs on your internal network. Start with networking and cabling, then add the devices, telephones and building security that run on it.

To see what still runs on the old phone network, take the PSTN switch-off check: ten questions, and a list of what has to move before the switch-off.

Choosing on-site infrastructure services

Who this line is for

Businesses in Teesside and the North East fitting out a new building, opening or moving a site, or living with a building whose Wi-Fi, cabling, phones, cameras and door entry were each installed by a different contractor at a different time and are supported by none of them now.

What you get

Everything inside the building installed by one team on one properly designed network: structured cabling and managed Wi-Fi as the foundation, desk telephones and computers set up before they arrive, access control and CCTV on a separated, secured network, all documented and supported by the same Stockton-on-Tees service desk that answers within three rings.

A building's technology is usually five contractors' work: the electrician ran some data cabling, the phone company fitted the handsets, an alarm company put in the cameras and the door entry, somebody bought the Wi-Fi online, and the computers came from wherever was cheapest. None of them talks to the others, the cameras are on the office Wi-Fi, and when something fails the first job is working out whose it is.

We install the building as one system. Networking and cabling comes first: structured cabling run and labelled, UniFi managed switches and Wi-Fi planned from a coverage survey, and the networks separated so phones, cameras, guests and devices do not share. Desk telephones and desktops and laptops arrive configured and enrolled. Building access control and CCTV sit on their own secured network, installed by the same engineers, so the door's record and the camera covering it can be read together.

For a new building the order matters: survey and design, then the connectivity ordered because it is the longest item, then cabling before the furniture, then everything else. Thomas Armstrong's sites were rebuilt this way, cabling, Wi-Fi and switching at every site, with no unplanned downtime. For an existing building, the survey finds what is sound and the plan replaces what is not, around your operations.

Questions people ask

We are moving into a new building. Where do we start?

With a survey and a design as soon as the date is known, then the connectivity ordered because it is the longest item, then cabling before the furniture, then Wi-Fi, phones, computers, access control and CCTV.

Do you install everything yourselves?

Yes. Cabling, switches, Wi-Fi, desk phones, computers, access control and CCTV are installed by Odyssey's own engineers, never subcontracted, and the same team supports them afterwards.

Can you fix a building that was installed piecemeal?

Yes. The survey finds what is sound and what is not, the design separates the networks that should not share and documents the lot, and the work is phased around your operations.

Why does cabling come first?

Because everything else runs on it. Poor cabling and patchy Wi-Fi slow down every system in the building, and a well-planned network lets phones, cameras and door controllers sit safely apart from the office devices.

Is building security part of IT?

It is now. Access control and CCTV are network devices, and they are safest on a separated network installed by the people who run the rest of it. Door entry panels on analogue lines also need replacing before the PSTN switch-off on 31 January 2027.

What about the connection into the building?

Business broadband, a leased line or a microwave link is ordered as its own service to the design, and it is the item with the longest lead time, so it is ordered first.

Who looks after it afterwards?

Our service desk in Stockton-on-Tees, answered within three rings. Switches, Wi-Fi, cameras and door controllers are monitored, changes are made remotely where possible, and a site visit carries only the call-out charge on a retainer.

We support organisations in Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, Durham, Hartlepool, Darlington, Stockton-on-Tees and Middlesbrough, from our service desk at Preston Farm.
