Managed IT support for Newcastle
Newcastle has no shortage of IT companies, so the useful question is what the monthly fee actually covers. With complete managed IT, every laptop, desktop and server is patched, monitored and protected by engineers we employ ourselves. Microsoft 365 gets proper sign-in and security policies, licences are kept tidy, and ageing equipment is replaced to a plan instead of after it fails on a busy morning.
Plenty of firms in the city already employ an IT manager or a small team. Co-managed IT keeps them in charge: we write down which work is ours, typically patching, monitoring and the tickets they hand across, and we pick up the calls when they are on holiday.
Either way, your staff have one number to ring. A person answers within three rings, there is no menu to work through, and a director is available whenever you want one. Each month a report shows what we did, who did it and how long it took.
Telephone systems in Newcastle
Odyssey started in telecoms in 1987, and phone systems are still a large part of what we do for Newcastle businesses. If your office still runs a system in the comms room with ISDN or analogue lines behind it, those lines have a fixed end: Openreach completes the switch-off on 31 January 2027. Our guide to preparing for the PSTN switch-off sets out what to check first.
For most offices the replacement is hosted voice, with calls ringing on desk phones, laptops and mobiles. People who already work in Microsoft 365 can take calls in Microsoft Teams, and an organisation that wants a system of its own can have Mitel MiVoice Business, hosted by us or on its premises. Your 0191 numbers move with you; a port typically takes 7 to 14 working days.
Business internet in Newcastle
We are an internet service provider as well as an IT company. Our own network, AS204558, carries business traffic only and reaches the internet through our equipment in Manchester and London Docklands, so a fault on your connection is handled by the people who built and run it.
City centre offices that depend on cloud software usually want a leased line: dedicated bandwidth up to 10 Gbps, as fast up as down, with a contracted fix time. Allow 60 to 90 working days for one to be installed. Smaller premises do well on business broadband, full fibre where the street has it, with a 4G or 5G backup that takes over automatically if the line drops.
Where we work around Newcastle
Newcastle is the furthest of our town pages from Preston Farm, and much of the work never needs the trip: monitoring, patching, Microsoft 365 and phone system changes are all done remotely. When a visit is needed, our engineers drive up from Stockton-on-Tees.
Gateshead and Sunderland have pages of their own, and Chester-le-Street is on our Durham page, so this one is for the city itself, from the centre out to its business parks.
Newcastle Helix
The innovation quarter in the city centre, home to science and technology companies beside Newcastle University.
Newcastle Business Park
Low-rise offices on the north bank of the Tyne, just south of Scotswood Road and west of the city centre.
Quorum Business Park
Offices on Benton Lane at Longbenton, about four miles north east of the city centre.
Questions people ask
Do you have an office in Newcastle?
No. Our only office is at Lockheed Court on Preston Farm Industrial Estate in Stockton-on-Tees, where the service desk and engineers are based. We would rather say that plainly than list an address where nobody works.
Can you take over from our current IT company?
Yes. We start by auditing every device, server, licence, domain and contract, and who holds the passwords to each, so nothing goes missing at handover. Your phone numbers and domain are accounted for before anything changes.
Do you look after cyber security as well?
Yes. Endpoint and identity protection is part of complete managed IT, and email filtering, hosted firewalls and security awareness training can each be added to the same retainer.
