IT and telecoms for manufacturing and energy

A plant cannot stop because a line or a phone system has. Resilient connectivity, telephony and managed IT for manufacturers and energy sites, on our own network.

What the sector needs, and what we delivered

Every need below is something Odyssey delivered for a named client.

  1. Telephony and mobiles for a new factory

SeAH Wind took hosted Mitel telephony and a fleet of mobiles from Odyssey in 2024 for its monopile factory at Teesworks, an 810 metre building that began production for Hornsea 3 in 2025.

  2. Power stations and energy from waste

MGT Teesside, which runs the Tees Renewable Energy Plant at Teesport, has its site networking, microwave links, hosted services and voice on Odyssey. Fortum Glasgow, building the South Clyde Energy Centre, has its network switches supplied and cared for by Odyssey.

  3. A group standard for voice

Hill & Smith, the listed infrastructure group founded in 1824, runs hosted voice handsets and SIP services from Odyssey across its businesses, with a telecoms retainer behind them. Its Middlesbrough flooring maker, Lionweld Kennedy, has bought from Odyssey since 2007.

  4. Voice across a fuel distribution network

Your NRG, the Hartlepool heating oil and fuel distributor with more than 20 depots, runs its SIP voice services, non-geographic numbers and broadband on Odyssey, with networking and router support since 2014.

  5. Fibre to a chemicals plant

Kemira, which makes water treatment chemicals at four UK sites including Teesport, has taken ethernet fibre and broadband from Odyssey since 2007.

  6. Microsoft 365 on the shop floor

AKV Cladding Products in Shildon and Uchimura UK in Birtley take Microsoft 365, endpoint protection and networking from Odyssey. Coral Windows, the Bradford window maker, has run its numbers, hosting and networking on Odyssey since 2010.

  7. Packaging, polymers, furniture and components

Magnum Packaging, Intertape, Shalam, Sterling Polymers, Isocom Components, Peikko, Bobrick and Elite Office Furniture all take connectivity and voice from Odyssey.

Questions people ask

What keeps the plant online if a line fails?

4G or 5G backup connectivity can take over when a fixed line goes down, and direct internet access gives a dedicated connection that is not shared with other users.

Can you connect buildings across a large site?

Yes. Point-to-point microwave links join buildings without laying cable, and ethernet gives fast, dedicated links. MGT Teesside has its site networking and microwave links on Odyssey.

Can you equip a new factory with phones and mobiles?

Yes. SeAH Wind took hosted Mitel telephony and a fleet of mobiles from Odyssey in 2024 for its monopile factory at Teesworks.

Can a group use one voice standard across its businesses?

Yes. Hill & Smith runs hosted voice handsets and SIP services from Odyssey across its businesses, with a telecoms retainer behind them.

How much bandwidth can a site have?

Direct internet access offers bandwidth up to 10 Gbps, with the same upload and download speed at any time of day, and it can be increased as your needs grow.
