IT and telecoms for logistics and ports

Day-and-night operations need telephony and connectivity to match. What we delivered for a port group, a haulier and a food distributor.

What the sector needs, and what we delivered

Every need below is something Odyssey delivered for a named client.

  1. One system and one supplier across every site

PD Ports had a different telephony supplier for different sites. We replaced them with one Mitel MiVoice Business system, managed locally, using the connectivity and routers already in place.

  2. Call recording that meets regulation

Encrypted call recording supports PD Ports' regulatory requirements, and presence shows who is free across every site.

  3. Coverage wherever people work

Country Valley Foods needed handsets that reach across 36,000 sq ft of food storage, and internet at a site broadband could not reach: we installed long-range cordless handsets and a microwave link.

  4. Change without stopping the operation

While Country Valley Foods' system was installed, overnight orders were routed to iPads so night staff never lost service. At Prestons of Potto, upgrades were planned around day-to-day work.

  5. IT that grows with the business

Prestons of Potto started with us for telephony across four national sites. We have since moved it from paper planning to Microsoft 365, replaced end-of-life hardware and taken on its IT support.

  6. Warehousing on a 22 acre site

Stiller Warehousing & Distribution, the third-generation family business at Aycliffe Business Park with more than 400,000 sq ft of warehousing, runs ethernet fibre, Mitel telephony and hosted services from Odyssey, a client since 2015.

  7. Microwave links to port-side offices

LV Logistics, the UK arm of Royal Dutch LV Logistics with its UK headquarters in Middlesbrough, and Movianto, the healthcare logistics provider, both take microwave connectivity from Odyssey.

  8. Distribution from County Durham

Kellars, the Shildon flooring wholesaler with six depots, runs its mobile fleet, networking and telephony on Odyssey. Support Logistics Europe and North East Commercial Trailer Services run hosted voice and networking.

Questions people ask

Can one phone system cover all our sites?

Yes. We replaced PD Ports' several telephony suppliers with one Mitel MiVoice Business system across its sites, using the connectivity and routers already in place.

Can handsets reach across a large warehouse?

Yes. At Country Valley Foods we installed water-resistant cordless handsets with the range to cover 36,000 sq ft of food storage.

Can we keep taking orders while a new system goes in?

The installation is planned so you can. While Country Valley Foods' system was installed, overnight orders were routed to iPads so night staff never lost service.

Can you connect a port-side or remote office without a cable?

Yes. Point-to-point microwave links connect sites without laying cable. LV Logistics and Movianto both take microwave connectivity from Odyssey.

Is call recording secure enough for regulated operations?

Recordings are encrypted and access is limited to authorised people. Encrypted call recording supports PD Ports' regulatory requirements.
